Description

We begin this season’s exploration of the musical galaxy with Jessie Montgomery’s dazzling Starburst, a vivacious piece for strings which sparkles with rapidly changing musical colours, exploding gestures and gentle fleeting melodies.

In Brahms’ Double Concerto, his last orchestral work, two soloists dialogue with each other and with the orchestra in a work full of passion, drama and lyricism.

Dedicated to Queen Victoria, Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 evokes the atmospheric ruins of Holyrood Chapel, Highland battles and the landscapes of Scotland.
